Default Obito is not doing nothing.

To me Obito is just doing it the smart way. He avoids needless conflict and acts when he wants. Why would he bother doing something and risk being uncovered when he can get others to do it? If you can do that, it means you're smarter than if you were doing something by yourself. He was very patient and collected as Tobi. Not rash and stupid as Naruto. It's not like there is only one good way to be villain. Obito represents the calculating type. Madara represents the un-beaten type. So far I remember that the latter always gets owned by something they don't anticipate. Do you think Obito can't anticipate? He is perhaps better than Madara at it.

    He did nothing?
Didn't he save Sasuke from death twice? Didn't he kill Konan even though she cracked his ability? Didn't he own Kakashi and Gai?

Technically, it was Madara's plan and stuff. Obito declaring a Fourth Shinobi World War probably wasn't too smart. "Oh hai guise, here's my plan, try and stop me" doesn't seem like a very calculating plan. Ambushing the Kyuubi and Hachibi would be far wiser. It's not like he can't track them in eventuality.

If he wouldn't do that, it would look even more ridiculous when the Alliance would beat them. He made them think it will be easy to win, but in fact he did ambush the Alliance with the disguised Zetsus, and Gedo Mazo. Rest was all turbolaunched Plot no Jutsu. He still made naruto cripplestomped, but of course it didn't do jack.

It's not his fault that he is pitied against the main protagonist of a shounen manga...If you take out Naruto, he is quite badass.

Put Madara and Obito in reverse, madara against Kyuubi/hachibi and obito against Kages and I'm sure he'd skewer them as well, and Madara wouldn't be able to do anything.

Obito may not doing nothing, but he isn't doing anything either.

His smart plan would have been to capture Kurama when Naruto was young. If he couldn't, other his smart plan would be to capture the reamining tails without risking war; I think he could have pulled it off.

It wasn't much of an ambush when Tokuma Hyuuga saw them before they fought. I'm just saying, what's smarter, going after the Kyuubi and Hachibi one after another while they're still isolated from other villages or just going YOLO and having all of them unite under one banner? Obviously the former. If Madara were in that position, he would have killed the five Kages right there and then and then easily captured Naruto while he was there going after Sasuke. I mean, what do you think Sage Mode Naruto, Sakura and Kakashi would be able to do against EMS/Rinnegan Madara? Kisame himself was close to taking the Hachibi and so did an inexperienced MS Sasuke.

Again, you're not counting the fact that this manga wouldn't exist otherwise.

I mean during war, lol. Ofc madara would rape Naruto during the chuunin exam...but he was dead. And he hates doing unclimatic things. (That's what makes him better than Orochi.)

You're actually blaming lack of Obito's action when it's lack of Kishimoto's creativity responsible.

That doesn't deny the fact that there should've been a legit reason for it. How on Earth does Obito not even attempt to capture Naruto at such a young age instead of trying after he's become so skilled with Kurama?

I bet you would want to read a story about a kid getting kidnapped and killed by an villain to create a world of illusion. The end.

Nope. What I want is a legit reason that patches up the plot hole.

A difference in what I'm saying, there is.
