About the Art of this Manga.....

Recently, I started watching the HxH anime, the 2011 remake by recommendation of some friends. All I can say is HxH is one very good series.
Since the anime is a very long way from completion, I searched for the rumored manga of Hiatus x Hiatus -*ejem* I mean Hunter x Hunter - I've already completed Greed Island, but there is one thing that's been buggin' me and I have the need of letting it out.
Let me put this straight: The Art of this manga SUCKS.
Sorry, but I can't take it anymore, as more chapters pass the art is not improving one bit, in fact it's turning worst, here are some examples:

I've Never Ever seen more crappy drawings in my life..... maybe during Kindergarden but still, is this the level of a professional mangaka? OK, I know the art isn't everything in a manga, yet it's a fundamental and very important part of it and have to say, those lame-half-assed designs are causing huge damage to the quality of the series. enough to rate this manga as Bad.

What really irritates me is the fact the Shonen Jump magazine has this series always on hiatus and never on danger of cancelation whereas other manga with amazing art, pretty good story and great characters get "axed" way too easily.

What do you people think?

haha this again. not sure if you're a troll. I'm feeling nice today though so i'll answer you. art-wise this is kinda the low-point in the manga, track back a bit and it gets really good, go forward a bit, and it gets even more awesome. anyway though these "crappy" "sketchy" chapters you pinpointed are redrawn with better quality in the volumes, if you want the better quality art version, read the volumes (or find scans of it). if you dig deeper in the forums, you'll find before and after images of how these redraws look like you'll see

Oh, and have you read FLCL? nuff said.

I am NO troll, I'm just pointing what's fact: The Art suck balls. I'm new in the HxH forum but already searched for similar threads and didn't found one.
Now I won't deny the art improves from time to time BUT only for one or two panels. Maybe you guys are by now used to these drawings but unfortunately (or fortunately) my good taste isn't gone yet.
Also, what do you mean with "read the volumes"? what are the chapters posted in this site?

About FCLC: Never heard of it. I already checked the manga and the art suck as much, therefore I don't feel like reading it, don't wanna hurt my eyes any further.

Lemme explain, most scans here are the chapters that are put out in jump every week. but once the volumes are released, Togashi redraws them with better art. The current news right now is Volume 31 (chapter 321-330) will be released on December 4. and volume 32 (331-340) on December 28. hope that clears it up

unfortunately though I dunno if anyone has reuploaded chapters 184-187. but 188 onwards is back to good art

The reason I mentioned FLCL is to point out that "sketchy" isn't bad. FLCL is on of the most EPIC things out there.

and if you're really that keen on art/panelling, then maybe it's not hunter x hunter you should be reading (personally i grade it B+/A-), or well not most shonen.. go read Vagabond or some Osamu Tezuka.

*sigh* here we go again. First of all if you couldn't find one then you didn't really looked that hard or at all and are just saying you did. You seem to know that this series has many hiatuses so do you really think that in all this time no one else has noticed and talked about the art. Every 5 months or so someone does the same, and that's just talking about this site, who knows about others. That being said, I saves us time just to copy and paste what we already replied before

then you're so far behind you aren't yet in the part she's talking about, this is a little far ahead but I'm late right now so I don't have time to look for something closer (that and I don't know in what chapter you are) but look at chapter 316 which is the end of the chimera ant arc and see if it's just one or two panels. (EDIT: sorry the last chapter is 318).

Thanks for the explanation, I didn't know Shonen Jump worked in that way printing sketchs and concept art in the magazine then redesign for the tankobon.

I know Bad Drawings DOESN'T mean bad story, but story is not everything in a manga, art is also very important. You know FCLC is epic, so don't you think it'd be MORE epic having awesome art?

By the way, any other manga in Shonen Jump has much better art than this one, there is no reaseon for me to stop reading Shonen.

Like I said: HxH anime isn't new to me, also I'm not a noob on MangaFox, is the HxH manga that's new to me. I know it's always on Hiatus 'cuz you can find tons of people ranting in the Shonen Jump forums, specially the ToC and I'm beginning to see why...
Like me I'm sure there are others that just finished the anime and want to continue with the manga and that's the kind of people I want to argue with about what's topic. People like you, who already discussed this, don't need to waste anymore of your time in this thread, you're free to leave and never return to threads of this type.

PS. I took a peek at some most recent chapters and the art still suck balls.

no is not, it's an asset, just like graphics are for video games, if it was then other series like crayon shinchan or JoJo's Bizarre Advengures would had never even been released, and webcomics like badly drawn kitties or order of the stick would never had become so popular.

then why was it so difficult to find the threads when I did it in less than a minute, not that I ever said you were new to HxH anime (though you said you did) or a noob at mangafox, so I don't see the relevance it has here.

then go to another site, if you're not new to mangafox you should be well aware of the rules against starting a new threads on topics already discussed, also don't you think that if you have such an specific goal you should say it, not just hope we magically know it. That being said, you can't pick and chose who answers the thread that still doesn't absolve it of the violation of the rules of the site, it's because it has already been discussed and explained (and Hellel already did) that it shouldn't be brought up again, it's like wanting to discuss how will they defeat the chimera ants because you haven't reached that chapter yet.

Hunter × Hunter, on the other hand, did not fare as well. Recent chapters of the manga were drawn while the author was ill, and have been noticeably decreasing in art quality, some of them looking like literal scribbles. The author wisely chose to take a break and focus on recovering from his illness, and the latest chapters he released after the end of his hiatus are of fairly good quality. Thankfully, he also revises the art for the tankoban collections, so it looks much better.

• To compare, here◊ is chapter 252 when it was released in Shonen Jump. Yes, the entire chapter (previous ones as well) looked that bad. Here◊ is the version released in the tankoban.

Basically Togashi is so pro that even when he doesn't finish before the deadline they will still publish is rough sketches (remember he has no assistants). He takes as many breaks as he wants and the company won't axe him, why? Simply because there is no newbie with enough talent to replace him, and if even by that slight chance he does get kicked out all the other companies will be begging by his feet to take him into their company. Art? Even some mangaka with the best art can't beat his popularity. He is kinda a legendary mangaka.... Legendary for his breaks.

BTW Even if he does not have good art, his panel flows are very well done. Would you also mind giving a definition of a manga with good art and characters that got axes by SJ?

I'm just saying: If you are tired of these kind of threads, just don't enter. And, like you said before, you can't spect ME magicaly know if people are tired of this topic or not.
I know the rules and to this date the art of this manga keep sucking so this discussion topic is valid.
About the examples you mentioned: JoJo's art isn't the best but improves as time passes and is WAY better than HxH's art. Shin-chan suck in everything, the reason of it's popularity is beyond me, but I didn't say HxH was unpopular because of the art.

He's SO talented?..... These drawings don't seem all that professional.

Now, practically every single manga that got axed since 2000's has much better art than HxH. Strong examples: Kagijin, Enigme, St&rs, Oumagadoki Zoo, Double Arts, Mx0( MxZero ).....

Oh why don't you try drawing a manga with better art and story than this one then? We all know already that Togashi-sensei isn't that talented in drawing artistic art but still, he is talented in other areas. a manga doesn't have to be great in everything, mangaka are human too.

He doesn't hire assistants because of compatibility issues. Jump people were practically forcing a sick man to keep on drawing despite his reluctance. They published his sketches in the magazines to calm down the obsessed fans (who were ready to be terrorists just to get new chapters to conclude the arc), but those ugly chapters were redrawn in the volume version so no complaint from the fans. The ones that you read here are the magazine version, they suck so buy the official version if you want better quality. That's where his effort goes into.

So what if the art isn't good? So what if he can't draw like Death note's artist? It's the same thing as asking why Doraemon's art can't be as cool as Pandora Hearts. Different talent, different style. Stupid question, nuff said.

People read manga for many reasons, not just for the art alone. If you're wondering why doesn't he just write light novels, that's because not everyone is talented in writing literature. This is his only way to express the story in his mind, which is appreciated by lots of fans all over the world except you. Proof is, people still read this manga despite the sucky art because they enjoy it for whatever the reason. If you can't appreciate the art, watch the anime for better quality, buy the volume version or just drop it. No one forced you to read this, really.
