I was beginning to think that the mangaka didn't know what a happy ending was! After all, the closest ones before were chapters 9 and 10. The first one ended with a nice a guy going to jail for life for commiting about a dozen or so cold blooded murders, and never seeing the face of his lover ever again. The next one ended with the guy dying after completing his life's work, and having his adopted kids end up living back on the street. While they weren't soul crushingly depressing like the rest of Necromancer, they certainly can't be called "happy endings". I'd say they ended up in a gray area at best. But at least the characters were still happy.
So will Necromancer continue this new trend, or is the author just building our hopes up, just to tear them down?
