    The rusty cogs of plot were grinding ever so slowly the last few chapters.
    Now with this new lubricant,can we expect it to move on higher speeds?

    yeah it makes me wonder as to what the hell happened to him before his change.
    I mean he looks so serious compared to his younger self.

    I would have to bet on the self-solving time paradox theory here.

    He allows himself to get captured so his daughter goes back in time to expose himself to the magic he will than master and turn into his future self.

    Maybe the actions he's taking now are delaying the trial even more so that's why he's not stuck in prison right now?
