And I don't think that there is any doubt to have about who's the best character among the two. The last match is another story, right. But the first match...

And let’s start things with the closest match this time!! The match that created most discussion this time, the very first match, in which a ninja and a mage knight were pitted against each other!! From the very beginning, one woman took the lead, and never handed it over to the other, no matter how much her opponent tried!! And that persistence led into 38 votes and a magnificent victory for none other than the Koga Chuunin with rather voluminous chest, Nagase Kaede!!

As for Ayase Yue, who did her best but still only managed to tie twice with Kaede and never get the lead, her 36 votes, only two below her opponent, weren’t enough for a victory this time!! This loss also becomes her final one, as she is now disqualified from the tournament!!

In the second match, despite starting slower than her opponent, after a couple ties resulting in failed attempts to take the lead, Sakurazaki Setsuna ultimately got ahead of her opponent, and finishes with 47 votes, almost twenty more than him!! But rather than getting to advance in the Losers’ Bracket, her greatest trophy is surely that she managed to take revenge for her dear ojou-sama!!

After all, the one who beat Konoe Konoka in his last match, Jack Rakan, with his 29 votes, didn’t have what it takes to win in the second match between extreme manliness and the power of yuri, and is thus disqualified from the tournament!!

In the latest match between two rivals, Negi Springfield, around ten, the famous child teacher, also known as an infamous gigolo by his students, won with outstanding 55 votes, more than anyone else could gather this time!! Not only that, but this match had the least ties, and was the only match with no abstains this time!! Seeing how this match ended, it seems that only ones who can hope to defeat him are his own students, as proven by Hasegawa Chisame, who is currently the only one in the whole tournament to have defeated him!! However, will that change in his next match, when he faces Sakurazaki Setsuna in a fierce battle of popularity!?

In the last match, one contestant started with a good lead, held that lead to the very end and finally won with 10 more votes than her opponent! That contestant is none other than Chao Lingshen, the time-travelling martian and a rare antagonist whose plan actually sort of succeeded!! Thanks to the 42 voters who cast their votes in her favor, she heads to her next match in the Losers' Bracket, facing Nagase Kaede, the ninja who has beaten several popular characters, including two thirds of the Library Trio of 3-A, next!

Meanwhile her opponent, Kagurazaka Asuna the Twilight Princess, despite having put up a good fight and being arguably the main heroine of the main plot, is now disqualified from the tournament! Still, she thanks the 32 people who voted her this time, and everyone else who has supported her until the very end!!

So, with the four matches over, the amount of remaining contestants in the Losers’ Bracket has been cut in half, and the fight for the bronze medal is truly heating up!! However, let’s give the final round of applause to the four great characters who lost this time, for getting as far as the quarter-finals, even if it’s those of the Losers’ Bracket, is not a bad accomplishment, considering there were nearly 120 opponents to compete against!!

As the announcers are nowhere to be found, the contestants start acting on their own...

Character introductions:
Hasegawa Chisame
Chisame is a lot of things. She’s even a lot of things you wouldn’t expect from her. She initially dislikes everyone but loves being adored as her alter ego Chiu-chan. She didn’t want to get sucked into all the weird stuff that is happening but by now complains that her life is boring without it. She is the deadpanned snarky meta girl but is good friends with Jack Rakan, out of all people. Levelheaded and precise, it has befallen to her the job of having to pull (slap) Negi out of doing something reckless of stupid. And she’s doing a good job on that so far. Joining the pre-Ala Alba crew during the Mahora Festival where she got her artifact to enhance her already considerable hacking skills and Chachamaru’s friendship after a showdown in cyberspace, Chisame has shown that brawn isn’t everything. Negi even appointed her as his unofficial advisor. And lately, she seems to show a bit of jealousy whenever he gets intimate with another girl. More than meets the eye indeed…

Karakuri Chachamaru
It’s everyone’s favorite robot (from this manga at least), Chachamaru! A being created as a joint project of both magic and technology, Chachamaru is more than your average robot. Only a meager two years old, she nonetheless has had more character development than most of the cast. Starting out rather emotionless as Evangeline’s servant and Ministra, she picked up an interest in Negi early on and an subsequent crush on him following that. All of that is the result of magic tinkering with her programming, something of which her creator, Hakase (and possibly also Chao) cannot figure out how it is possible. With all her psychical and emotional upgrades, Chachamaru takes her place among Ala Alba as one of the heavy hitters. This is made all the more evident by her pactio with Negi, which gave her a huge remote-controlled, satellite-mounted laser cannon FROM THE FUTURE! Not to mention a soul in the progress and a few other things we cannot mention here. The vice-captain on the Great Paru-sama, she assisted Haruna in the assault on the Gravekeeper’s Palace but got taken out of commission by Quartum, who sliced her in half. She is currently under the care of Hakase after the ship crash-landed in Mahora.

Character introductions:
Miyazaki Nodoka
The story of Nodoka Miyazaki is truly one of from zero to hero. Starting out as a meek librarian nicknamed Honya-chan with a mild case of androphobia, she (literally) falls in love with Negi and (unknowingly to him) acquires a pactio with him in Kyoto. And the rest is, as they say, history. Coming a far way from when she started out, Ala Alba’s resident mind reader has proven herself time and time again just why she is one of the most dangerous members of Ala Alba. There is that time she went treasure-hunting solely to upgrade her artefact or when she outwitted Shirabe or even Dynamis merely by quick thinking and asking the right questions. No wonder that she is the only enemy for who Fate is willing to violate his no killing rule.

Evangeline A.K. McDowell
Also known by many other frightening names, this 10 years old loli is much more than first meets the eye. She is in fact an over 700 years old true blood vampire and extremely powerful witch. Eva holds great importance in the flow of the story, as she is highly responsible for most of the growth Negi goes through as the series progresses, both in power and personality. A master in the arts of dark and ice magic, as well as a master puppeteer and creator of Magia Erebea, since early in the story she takes Negi in as her pupil, shaping most of his magical prowess up to what he shows nowadays. Known to have loved Nagi in his prime days, she was cursed by him in one attempt to seduce the man: she is forced to attend Mahora School every day for the last 15 years.

Character introductions:
Sakurazaki Setsuna
A bodyguard with a crush on her charge. Also a lesbian albino samurai angel (half-demon technically but like you would know at first glance) that wields a sword larger than herself. A childhood friend of Konoka and trained in the martial art of Shinmeiryuu, Setsuna has been featured as one of the most prominent action girls since her formal debut in the Kyoto Arc, where her background was explained, and is sometimes referred to as lieutenant due to her position in Ala Alba and her relation as a fighter to Negi. Setsuna spent the first 250 chapters living in a closet that had become so transparent that it evaporated in chapter 252 when Konoka took the initiative and made a pactio with her. Coincidentally,, she holds the record for longest on screen kiss. One of the best fighters in the manga, she wants nothing more than to keep her Ojou-sama safe, a feat that gets complicated by to the existence of another lesbian samurai with a crush…

Negi Springfield
Read the manga or alternatively, Negi is the ten year old protagonist of the series, a precocious Welsh mage who was tasked to be the homeroom teacher of an all-female Japanese middle school class. Negi's principal goal is to find his Disappeared Dad, Nagi Springfield, a legendary mage, hero of the most recent magical war, who has been presumed dead for a decade or so. Negi, with good reason, thinks otherwise and devotes a lot of his energy, with the help of his friends, toward unveiling the secrets of his disappearance. Add in copious amounts of badass, Dark magic, fighting skills, heroic tendencies, English gentleman manners, chick magnet, genius intelligence and enormous amounts of potential (flavors include but are not limited to, magic, martial arts, being oblivious to love (but not too much) and adorable) and let it stew for 300+ chapters. I could tell you the rest but that would be spoiling.

Character introductions:
Chao Lingshen
Chinese Martian big bad entrepreneur mad scientist martial artist mage and future descendant of the main character. Yeah, the main cast didn't believe her when she told them, either. The first serious antagonist, she is the main driving force behind the Mahora Festival where she planned to reveal the existence of magic to everyone in order to prevent the dystopian future where she hails from (mages and mundane humans are at war in her time) She is a skilled planner, masterminding several plots at once and even succeeding at her goal, if it weren’t for Negi possessing a Cassiopeia. In addition to being the smartest student in Mahora (covering more fields than Hakase), she is also an accomplished martial artist, holding her own against Negi in her final battle before revealing her trump card: she is capable of wielding magic. Perhaps not the strongest antagonist in the manga but certainly the most intriguing one.

Nagase Kaede
A Ninja of considerable skill (a chuunin of the Koga clan but probably is way more powerful by now), Kaede acts as something of a wise mentor to the group when she's not serving as muscle. Yet for all of her wisdom, she still manages to be one of the worst students and she is the infamous Baka Blue. In class 3-A, Kaede seems to be more of a big sister to the other students, especially the Narutaki twins, Kotaro and Negi, if we can believe Chamo’s love chart. She is also one of the more mature ones, standing tall at over 6 feet (for a Japanese schoolgirl, that’s huge) and sporting the second biggest rack in the class (again, huge) She has a pactio with Negi and her artifact, a badass cloak, plays nicely into her ninja skill, capable of hiding her from sight but more impressively, holding an alternative plane of reality including a house. Perfect for sneaking in people or deflecting attacks. Kaede is a formidable fighter, arguably the best in Ala Alba behind Negi and Kotaro. Try to count how many times she has opened her eyes when fighting because if she does, her opponent had better be ready for a serious beatdown.
