although some people would think that the story was so sad or it should have ended in more happy way-like shuro would survive and live happily with mine -but i think that it ended so greatly and realistically,it all was concloded when mine said to sakaki that he intended from the begining for shuro to die too because his intention was to destroy the ES gene ,so i kind of guesed that the story will end like that.
and imagine if shuro survived and lived with mine,he could live at least 200 years so in the worst case he will live alone and sad after mine dies for more than 100 years,and on the other side scientists will not leave him alone they will examine him to see why he lived all of this time and of course they will discover the ES gene and may try to repeat that tragedy again and of course sakaki will not be there to warn them.
sometimes it is for the best in some stories to end sadly ,i know that i m sad that mine is now alone but at least she has a part from shuro within her and she will live with his memory forever ,but all in all that was a great story and i liked it sooo much,it is rare to read these kind of stories every day so once in a while we can have a change of mood ,i think it will be kind of boring for all the mangas to have the happily ever after kind of end.

I wonder if Mine's baby will have the same powers as Shuro? There is a cliffhanger there. When Mine talked to Sakaki at the end there, he realized that she is pregnant and he said he will see her again oneday... meaning... he might show up again to she if the baby's genes takes after the father? In a way the great experiment continues...

I didn't cry at the end, but it did make me a little emotional.

It was a great story, because even though the ending was sad, the mangaka didn't make it so tragic that there is no hope for Mine to continue living, or something like that. It was a bittersweet ending, but Mine moved on, with her and Shuro's child.

That's why love Souryo Fuyumi's work- no matter how sad her endings are, she always makes it seem like there is always hope for the future. So I felt incredibly happy at the end. After I read her mangas, I always feel like I can conquer whatever problems I have to overcome...and that's why I think that the ending was just perfect.
